Leaving shortly to head up to PAX. Should be a lot of fun, hopefully pics will follow shortly after. I also hope to meet up with the crews of CO-OP and TRS, who will be there (thanks Bryan).

Gears of War 2 Cog Tags

My buddy Dustin sent me some Gears of War 2 style Cog Tags for free, which I think is really cool. I think he made them out of scrap metal.

Thanks Dustin!

How To Setup Call of Duty 4 with no level requirements for weapons

Call of Duty 4 is a pretty freaking sweet PC game, and a blast for LAN games. The problem with LAN games is that if you have a relatively new install of Call of Duty 4, you are at a disadvantage. One neat thing about the game is that as you play multiplayer matches, you unlock new weapons and perks. A player who recently installed the game cannot use these weapons or perks.

For some reason, the makers of Call of Duty 4 did not include a way to play with all weapons and perks as part of their game. After some research, it seems as though the only way to accomplish this is via mods, namely the PAM4 Mod. The following configuration works with the latest version of Call of Duty 4 (currently 1.7), and is taken from Team Warfare League forums.

  1. Download the PAM4 mod for Call of Duty 4 (aka CoD4). < ?php showfile("pam4.zip"); ?>
  2. Extract to {game_dir}/Mods/pam4, creating the directory. So the directory structure should look as follows:
  3. Open the game and enable the mod. If you’re using dedicated, read this or this.

And that’s all! Works great. It should not have been this hard to find, btw.

Final Fantasy 7 album by OCReMix

The soundtrack to Final Fantasy 7 for Playstation 1 is one of my favorite cd sets. It really showcases Nobuo Uematsu‘s talent, and I think it is without a doubt his best work. I was excited when OCReMix announced they released a remix album of it, and I had to have it.

It’s a remix, so most of the songs have techno influences. Check it out, definitely give it a listen if you’re into game music, or techno. You can download the individual tracks or the the entire album for free from them. It’s been on my iPod for awhile, and I doubt it’s going anywhere anytime soon.

Here are my favorite tracks
Serenity by Mustin
A Life Without Parole by Dhsu
Sephiroth’s Wake by Tweek
No Such Thing As the Promised Land by Sephfire, sgx
Every Story Begins with a Name by Big Giant Circles
Short Skirts by djpretzel, Vigilante
The Crossroads by Jovette Rivera
Black Wing Metamophosis by bLiNd, Fisy, pixietricks, Sixto Sounds, Steffan Andrews, Suzemebachi, tefnek
Chasing the Storm by Rellik

How To Calibrate the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PS2

I purchased my PS2 used over a year ago with two wireless controllers. One of my wireless controllers, a Logitech PS2 Cordless Action Controller had recently become misaligned. If nothing was touched on the controller, the character or pointer would wander seemlessly to the right.

After about 20 minutes, I found a way to recalibrate the joystick:

Question: How do I re-calibrate the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PlayStation®2?
Normally there is no reason to re-calibrate the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PlayStation2. In rare cases where the mini-joysticks may need to be re-calibrated, you can use the process below. Please note that this process only works for the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PlayStation2.
1. Remove one battery.
2. Hold the L1 and L2 buttons while re-inserting the battery. (NOTE: Do not touch or move the mini-joysticks at all during this time. It is very important that the mini joysticks are allowed to center themselves during this step or the calibration procedure will not be successful.)

The mini-joysticks should now be re-calibrated. Please note that in some cases you may need to resynchronize the gamepad and receiver after this procedure. For more information on resynchronizing this device please see Knowledge Base Article 437.

Worked like a charm :).
