How To Calibrate the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PS2

I purchased my PS2 used over a year ago with two wireless controllers. One of my wireless controllers, a Logitech PS2 Cordless Action Controller had recently become misaligned. If nothing was touched on the controller, the character or pointer would wander seemlessly to the right.

After about 20 minutes, I found a way to recalibrate the joystick:

Question: How do I re-calibrate the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PlayStation®2?
Answer:
Normally there is no reason to re-calibrate the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PlayStation2. In rare cases where the mini-joysticks may need to be re-calibrated, you can use the process below. Please note that this process only works for the Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PlayStation2.
1. Remove one battery.
2. Hold the L1 and L2 buttons while re-inserting the battery. (NOTE: Do not touch or move the mini-joysticks at all during this time. It is very important that the mini joysticks are allowed to center themselves during this step or the calibration procedure will not be successful.)

The mini-joysticks should now be re-calibrated. Please note that in some cases you may need to resynchronize the gamepad and receiver after this procedure. For more information on resynchronizing this device please see Knowledge Base Article 437.

Worked like a charm :).

Having jumped straight to the above after 20 minutes of frantic google searching for a solution I came across the above and thusly have no idea were it’s from or who posted it. Whoever you are though kind sir, I LOVE YOU! You are a saint among men, I bow at majestic aura of brilliance and would very much like to have your babies (please note I am a man)

I’ve just went through a month long saga of getting a replacement logitech pad only to find it too needed replaced due to being “faulty”. Having read these wonderful enlightening words I now have the problem fixed, will no longer need to await another ten days to pass as my RMA to be processed, and can go back to gaming on my beloved PS2.

It is available somewhere else, because my link above to the logitech site where the information originated is still valid.

It’s not impossible to find, just hard. At any rate, you’re welcome 🙂

Good to know people are getting use of this, makes me want to post more random tidbits I find helpful and fairly hard to find. Interesting to see that the original article that I linked to still exists, just a little non-obvious.

P.S. Looks like I’m #1 result for recalibrate ps2 logitech, and I’m sure other similar keywords as well. That’s neato.

    You are my hero!

My right stick was having z-axis issues which made it unusable playing certain games on my PC. I couldn’t get the Win7 calibration wizard to fix it. After looking in despair at the instructions for getting a PS3 controller to work in Win7 via bluetooth, I decided to search one more time for a fix, and this did the trick!

For years my Logitech controllers (note the plural) just lay unused in a box as I found no solution to the problem. When my first one experienced the problem and I couldn’t find a solution (even opened it to no avail), I decided to buy a second one which had the same problem just a few months after the purchase. They were still usable for games which didn’t rely too much on the left analog stick, so I kept them around but barely used them and bought other inferior wireless controllers as a compensation.
A decade later I’m selling all my video game stuff and I didn’t plan on throwing the controllers away or selling them at a lower price just because the left analog sticks didn’t function correctly anymore. I decided to do a search on the internet – maybe someone had found a remedy now? And then I find this article. Thanks. It’s just a shame that Logitech didn’t bother to have that information in the manual – enough ink to have the manual translated in 20 or so languages when five to ten would have sufficed but apparently none for this solution…
